KUALA LUMPUR: Psychosocial support is being provided to the families of the five victims of the helicopter crash in Ulu Baram, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Among the victims were the ministry’s personnel who were carrying out the Flying Doctor Services (FDS).
He said the ministry will ensure that the welfare of the victims’ families and next-of-kin is properly looked after.
“We, from the Health Ministry, are currently focusing our attention on the families and next-of-kin of the victims. I urge everyone to ensure that the trauma and tragedy they have experienced are addressed appropriately from a psychological perspective,” he said during a press conference here on Wednesday (Sept 9).
Dzulkelfy said a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support team has been mobilised to support family members by providing psychological first aid and ongoing emotional support.
“This support is also being extended to the FDS team itself to help them cope with the post-traumatic impact of this incident,” he said.
Financial assistance will also be channeled to the families, he said.
As of this morning’s report, operations to remove the victims’ bodies are being actively carried out by the rescue teams, namely the police and the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia,” he added.
He said the Miri Hospital has made full preparations at all levels to receive the victims’ remains as soon as they are brought out from the incident site.
On Tuesday, five people were killed in a helicopter crash near Long Lellang STOLport in Ulu Baram, Sarawak.
