KUCHING: A Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) helicopter landed at Long Lellang at 11am on Wednesday (Sept 9) as part of search and recovery (SAR) operations for the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash on Tuesday (Sept 8).
The helicopter departed Miri Airport at 10.45am with a seven-member SAR team, who reported to Sarawak police commissioner Comm Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah at 11.015am upon their arrival.
According to Bomba, its SAR team will conduct size-up and overhaul operations at the site.
A police forensic team was expected to arrive at Long Lellang by helicopter at 1.50pm to conduct investigations.
The Bomba air crew will remain at Long Lellang until the forensic team completes its work and return to Miri at 4pm at the latest.
The Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) is temporarily closed to facilitate investigations into the fatal crash.
All five people on board were killed, including the pilot and four Health Ministry personnel on a Flying Doctor Service operation to Ba Lai, Long Siut and Long Lellang.
