GENTING HIGHLANDS: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has asked for space to review documents submitted by three non-governmental organisations (NGOs) over allegations of abuse of power involving a former minister.
Its deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said the complaint's contents and supporting documents were being reviewed.
"We hope the media will give us space to scrutinise the documents submitted before we take any further action," he told reporters after a journalism workshop organised by the MACC here on Friday (Feb 13).

He said a thorough assessment would be carried out to determine whether there were any breaches of the law or misconduct warranting further investigation.
Any action would be in accordance with existing legal provisions, he added.
On Thursday (Feb 12), Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM) and Pertubuhan Angkatan Nadi Jiwa Islam Malaysia (Panji Malaysia) went to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya to lodge the complaint.
Perkasa president Syed Hassan Syed Ali said the report concerned an agreement between the government and a foreign company, allegedly involving nearly RM1.1bil, which was sealed early last year.

However, he declined to disclose detailed information about the report as he was bound by a confidentiality agreement signed when he lodged the complaint.
"We received numerous complaints and queries from the public concerning a government agreement with a foreign company involving nearly RM1.1bil.
"The agreement was signed around March last year, and questions have arisen regarding the status and direction of the project.
"It involves a former minister as well as a former officer who served with the company. We leave it to the MACC to investigate whether there are elements of misconduct, abuse of power or leakages," he told reporters after lodging the complaint.
