IPOH: Six brothers were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday (July 28) with trafficking 118.87g of heroin in Chemor last week.
Muhammad Affandi Zulkafli, 41, alongside his brothers, Muhammad Khairul Azmil, 40, Shahrul Azwan, 38, Mohamad Shah Herman, 35, Muhamad Amirul, 29, and Mohamad Hafizi, 27, were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
All six, who are unemployed, nodded to indicate they understood the charge after it was read out before Magistrate Norizan Riduan.
No plea was recorded as drug trafficking cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court, and no bail was offered.
Another individual, Mohd Ismail Borhan, 43, who was supposed to be jointly charged, was unable to appear in court as he was hospitalised.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Zarris Sofea Zainudin informed the court that the charge against Ismail would be read at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in the afternoon.
All seven accused were alleged to have committed the offence in a hut near a house at Laluan Usaha, Kampung Che Zainal Tambahan 1, Chemor, at about 9.20pm on July 21.
Magistrate Norizan fixed Oct 22 for mention pending the submission of the chemistry report.
