High Court dismisses appeal by ex-Bersatu Youth chief to retrieve two seized luxury cars, other valuables

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has dismissed an appeal by former Bersatu Youth chief Adam Asmuni who was seeking to retrieve two luxury cars and other valuable items, including luxury watches and handbags, that were seized by the authorities during a drug raid.

Justice Mohd Arief Emran Arifin made the dismissal after considering oral submissions from lawyer Amirrul Jamaluddin, who represented Adam as the appellant, and Deputy Public Prosecutor Shahrizzat Amadan who appeared for the government as the respondent.

"This court dismisses the appeal and upholds the Session Court's decision," the judge said here on Thursday (Feb 12).

The assets that were forfeited from Adam include two luxury cars, luxury watches, handbags, cash, money in Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB) and a motorcycle.

On Feb 4, the same court also dismissed an appeal by Adam's wife Lyiana Roslee to retrieve the same assets linked to the same case.

Their appeals stem from the dismissal by the Sessions Court who rejected their bid to have the assets returned to them.

In January last year, Adam was sentenced to seven years in jail and 10 strokes of the rotan by the Shah Alam High Court after he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of cannabis possession.

Adam is currently serving his sentence at the Kajang Prison.

Lyiana, who was jointly charged with Adam, was acquitted after the prosecution withdrew the charges against her.
