MELAKA: The Melaka Tourism Passport introduced by the state government offers savings of up to RM268, covering 63 tourism products in the state, in conjunction with Visit Melaka 2.0 and Visit Malaysia 2026.
Tourism Melaka promotion division general manager Nasrul Ahmad said the savings are provided through discounts of up to 80%, attractive tourism packages and special rates for admission tickets to participating tourism destinations, with the passport priced at RM5.
He said the initiative aims to boost the state’s tourism industry this year and encourage visitors to stay longer in Melaka, in line with the target of attracting 19 million tourists and visitors in 2026.
“The tourism products involved comprise 35 tourist attractions; 15 hotels, resorts, chalets and homestays; four restaurants and cafes; four shopping centres; and five health tourism packages.
“For example, visitors can enjoy a 10% discount for Melaka River Cruise and Menara Taming Sari, while Bayou Lagoon Water Park, Magic Art 3D Museum and Cheng Ho Cultural Museum offer discounts of up to 20%,” he told Bernama here yesterday.
Nasrul said the Melaka Tourism Passport also offers “Treat and Travel” packages involving four private hospitals in the state as part of efforts to attract medical tourists.
In addition to discounts and special rates, he said the passport can also serve as a souvenir, as visitors can collect stamps at each location they visit.
Nasrul said 10,000 copies of the Melaka Tourism Passport have been printed since its launch late last year and are available for purchase at Tourism Melaka kiosks in Banda Hilir, as well as at tourism destinations such as Menara Taming Sari, Melaka River Cruise, Zoo Melaka and several hotels in the state.
He said some tourism industry players, including hotels and travel agencies, also provide the passport free of charge to visitors as part of efforts to attract them to use their services and facilities.
Meanwhile, he said the state government hopes the initiative will help increase the length of stay of tourists to Melaka, particularly foreign visitors such as those from China, to at least three days and two nights.
“Most Chinese tourists come to Melaka on day trips, and some stay for only one night. With this tourism passport, they will have a clearer picture that Melaka has many attractive destinations worth visiting.
“Of course, visiting all these places in a single day is not possible. At least three days and two nights are needed to cover more attractions,” he said.
As such, Nasrul said Tourism Melaka will work with associations, non-governmental organisations and travel agencies bringing in Chinese tourists to promote the Melaka Tourism Passport.
