KOTA KINABALU: Penampang Bersatu is calling for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to immediately step down as president in order to safeguard the party’s future.
Its division chief, Francis Mojikon, said Bersatu under Muhyiddin’s leadership was giving too much priority to political survival instead of struggling for the party’s interest.
“The president has failed to lead Bersatu with prudence and rationality. Every decision appears aimed only at defending his own position, not strengthening the party or serving the people,” he said Tuesday (Feb 10) in supporting Bersatu vice-president Datuk Ronald Kiandee’s call for Muhyiddin to step down.
Mojikon said that pressuring members through the disciplinary board against those who speak up proves the existence of authoritarian leadership that undermines the party’s internal democracy.
“This is not political reform, this is internal oppression. Members who sincerely voice criticism are silenced as if they are enemies of the party,” he said, adding that cosmetic changes within the party are no longer relevant.
“Bersatu requires a complete overhaul of its leadership,” he said, adding that Bersatu will not rise as long as the old leadership clings to power.
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin must step down with dignity and give way to the younger generation,” he added.
Mojikon also called on Bersatu members nationwide to rally behind deputy president, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, to lead the party’s rebranding process towards becoming a stronger, bolder political movement that truly serves the people.
“If we want Bersatu to be relevant again and win in the next general election, change must happen now — not tomorrow,” he said.
