KL cops bust syndicate hiding drugs in ‘helium’ gas canisters

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a drug syndicate that used gas cylinders labelled as helium as its modus operandi.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said police raided a home on Jalan Tun Razak here and arrested three suspects aged between 26 and 36 years.

“During the raid, police seized five gas cylinders labelled helium that were suspected to contain drugs, three plastic packets containing powder suspected to be MDMA, and four cartridges suspected to contain methamphetamine.

“Urine screening conducted on all three suspects tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, and ketamine.

“Investigations revealed that the suspects had been actively distributing drugs in the form of gas cylinders supplied together with balloons, intended for customers to inhale MDMA at nightclubs around Kuala Lumpur over the past three months,” he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 9).

Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man and seizure of 14 boxes of bottles labelled as helium suspected of containing MDMA, seven bundles of balloons and a car.

“The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM69,491,” he said.

He added that all suspects will be remanded today.
