Teen gets 100 hours of community service for injuring former Dang Wangi OCPD

KUALA LUMPUR: A teenager has been sentenced to 100 hours of community service by the Magistrate's Court for injuring former Dang Wangi OCPD Senior Asst Comm (SAC) Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman.

The incident occurred during an evacuation operation in Kampung Sungai Baru four months ago.

Magistrate Nurfarahain Roslan ordered the 16-year-old to complete the service within six months and advised him to reflect on his actions.

On Jan 2, the teenager pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to intimidate Sulizmie Affendy while the officer was carrying out his duties.

The offence was committed at Jalan Datuk Abdul Malik, Kampung Sungai Baru, between 10.50am and 11.14am on Sept 11 last year.

The charge under Section 332 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of three years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Proceedings were held in camera as the accused is a minor.

Defense lawyer Muhammad Najib Ahmad told the press he had requested leniency and a warning for the accused.

He cited a Welfare Department (JKM) report stating the boy had the potential to change if provided with proper supervision.

The lawyer added that the teenager is currently working part-time at a burger stall and has not been involved in illegal activities.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Farhanah Arul Hisham had requested the court to impose community service on the youth.

On Sept 11 last year, media reported that Sulizmie Affendy sustained a head injury after being struck by an object thrown by an unidentified individual.

The incident took place during a tense operation to disconnect electricity to several houses in the area following a court order for demolition.
