Six-year-old dies after wandering into hot spring pool

ALOR GAJAH: A family holiday ended in tragedy when a six-year-old boy was believed to have drowned at a hot spring pool in Gadek.

The incident is reported to have occurred at around 7.40pm on Sunday, after the boy, from Pahang, was found unconscious and floating in the adult pool by other guests at the recreation site.

After receiving an alert, a medical volunteer team from a nearby local community reportedly arrived at the scene first.

The team moved the victim to a safe location before performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and contacting the hospital for emergency assistance.

An ambulance from Alor Gajah Hospital rushed the victim for treatment, but he passed away at 8.24pm the same day.

It was learnt that at the time of the incident, the child was under the supervision of his relative and elder sister.

However, the victim is believed to have wandered into the adult pool without the knowledge of other family members.

The victim’s body was sent for a post-mortem.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

He said that statements were recorded from the victim’s mother, 27, and his 22-year-old aunt under the Child Act to assist in investigations.
