Shafie’s Zara contempt case to be on Feb 11


KOTA KINABALU: The contempt of court case involving Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, arising from his remarks about the inquest into the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir, has been rescheduled to Feb 11.

The case was initially set for hearing on Tuesday (Feb 3) before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan, but has now been fixed for a later date.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P. Kunyalan confirmed the rescheduling following a request from the prosecution and an agreement by all parties.

Shafie, a former chief minister, was issued a show-cause notice for his public statement about the Zara inquest on Sept 22 last year. The Coroner's Court allowed the Attorney-General to initiate contempt proceedings against Shafie and, separately, against Che Muna Din, better known as Mona Din, on Oct 23.

Mona has since apologised, pleaded guilty to her online comment, and was fined RM300.
