UM student reported missing, police launch full-scale investigation


PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating a University of Malaya (UM) student who was reported missing since last Tuesday (Jan 27).

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the police would investigate the case from all angles, including reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording taken at the student’s residence, reported Sinar Harian.

"A thorough investigation is being carried out," he said in a statement on Sunday (Feb 1).

Sinar Harian previously reported that a student, identified as Nawal Shahirah Mohd Jamil, 23, was missing after being last seen at a condominium near Jalan Professor Diraja Ungku Aziz, Section 14 here on Tuesday.

Petaling Jaya District Police chief Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said his department received a report regarding the woman's disappearance at 10.34pm.

"The woman is approximately 170 centimetres tall, weighs 65 kilograms, has fair dark skin, is of medium build and has long black hair," he said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 31).

According to him, the victim's last clothing was a dark grey shirt and long trousers.

"Anyone with any information is asked to come forward to assist the investigation by visiting the nearest police station."

"Information can also be provided by contacting the investigating officer, Inspector Ngo Su Siao, on 016-923 1558 or 03-7874 2222 / 03-7966 2222," he said.
