MUAR: A total of 234 undocumented migrant workers have been detained in raids on two factories in Parit Jamil, Muar, and one in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat.
Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the Parit Jamil industrial area operations were conducted from 11am on Monday (Sept 7).
The premises were a furniture factory and a frame maker.
"Our surveillance and information from the public showed the two factories have been hiring illegal foreign workers," Rusdi said in a statement on Wednesday (Sept 9).
He said the second raid took place on Tuesday (Sept 8) at a furniture factory in Yong Peng.
Rusdi said the three factories were found to have committed offences by employing foreign workers without valid travel documents and work permits.
He said the foreigners detained are a Pakistani man, 155 Bangladeshi men, 16 Indian national men, 18 Myanmar men, 28 Nepalese men, nine mainland Chinese men, and seven Myanmar women, all aged 20 to 50.
"We also detained two local men who are managers at the factories and another local, a driver," Rusdi added.
He said those detained are being investigated for alleged offences under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, as well as Sections 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
"The undocumented migrants are at the Pekan Nanas Immigration Depot in Pontian, assisting with investigation and awaiting further action," he said.
