PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a four-day remand extension for a former chief executive officer of a subsidiary of a federal statutory body over alleged misappropriation, abuse of power and corruption involving the appointment of a developer for a project in Kuala Lumpur.
The remand order, which runs until Sunday (Sept 13), was issued by Magistrate Ezrene Zakariah after MACC made the application at the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (Sept 9).
The application was made after the suspect's initial three-day remand period, which began on Monday (Sept 7), expired on Wednesday.
The suspect, in his 50s, was previously detained along with a former Felda general manager on Sept 6 in connection with the ongoing investigation. The latter is still under remand until Friday (Sept 11).
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the case was being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
Previously, Abd Halim said the MACC had opened six investigation papers on the assets bought above their market value.
Among the six identified assets that were purchased were the Grand Plaza Service Apartments in London and the construction of the Felda Wellness Corporation Sdn Bhd.
“Aside from the six that we opened, one more has been identified as a pending case that has yet to be closed.
"It will also be studied and reexamined by our side. So far, 12 people have had their statements recorded, including three board of directors members of the Felda Investment Corporation,” he said.
