KLUANG: A man believed to be from India died on the spot in a collision involving a hatchback and an MPV at KM73 of Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam near here.
Kluang deputy OCPD Supt Nik Mohd Azmi Husin said the accident occurred at about 10.11pm on Tuesday (Sept 8).
He said the hatchback, driven by a 28-year-old local man, was carrying his wife and their two-year-old daughter, while the MPV was driven by a 27-year-old Pakistani man who was travelling with the victim.
“The hatchback was travelling from Taman Sri Bayu towards Simpang Renggam,” he said in a statement.
Supt Nik Mohd Azmi said the MPV, which was travelling from Simpang Renggam, made a U-turn at the scene and drove into the path of the hatchback.
He said the hatchback driver, Muhammad Khairul Azwan, was unable to avoid the MPV and crashed into its left side.
Muhammad Khairul suffered injuries to both legs, while his 22-year-old wife, identified only as Shaidah, sustained injuries to both legs and her ribs.
Their two-year-old daughter, Nur Arisya Sofea, suffered injuries to her head and left leg.
The Pakistani driver, Ali Wagar, suffered injuries to his shoulders and legs.
“The victim suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” Supt Nik Mohd Azmi said.
He said the victim’s identity had yet to be established as no passport or work permit was found at the scene.
The body was sent to Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang for a post-mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
