Ministry allocates RM200mil to boost Fire Department's disaster preparedness in Teluk Intan

PETALING JAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has allocated RM200mil to improve the Fire and Rescue Department's operational capabilities and disaster preparedness, says its minister Nga Kor Ming.

“This is especially important as the country recorded more than RM2.4bil in property losses due to fires last year,” he said during the Teluk Intan Volunteer Fire Brigade's Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) handover ceremony on Sunday (Oct 25).

He added that Budget 2027 would also provide two four-wheel-drive vehicles, one each for the Teluk Intan Fire and Rescue Station and the Teluk Intan Volunteer Fire Brigade.

He also announced that the new Teluk Intan Fire and Rescue Station is scheduled to open on Dec 18 this year.

"It will also improve their preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season," he said, adding that he intends to upgrade the existing fire station from Category B to Category C to enhance its operational capacity and meet the community's growing safety needs.

In recognition of the country's Volunteer Fire Brigades, Nga announced a RM20,000 contribution to the Teluk Intan Volunteer Fire Brigade.
