KUALA LUMPUR: Makkal Osai senior editor Dr Rajan Boopalan, 68, died at Selayang Hospital at 4am on Sunday (Oct 25).
Makkal Osai managing director Datuk S. Gopalakrishnan said Rajan had 45 years of experience in journalism and had served as a senior editor at the Tamil-language newspaper for 15 years.
He said Rajan had also served as an editor at another newspaper before joining Makkal Osai.
"He was a kind person, friendly with everyone and had good relationships with many leaders, including political figures. He was also highly skilled in translating between English, Malay and Tamil," he told Bernama when contacted on Sunday.
Rajan was among the recipients of contributions from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM fund, which were presented on Oct 7 while he was receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital for complications arising from high blood pressure.
The contribution was presented by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching during a visit to the hospital, with the assistance handed over to Rajan's wife, A. Saraswathi.
Rajan was reported to have fallen in the bathroom of his home on Sept 8, after which further examinations found that a blood vessel in his brain had ruptured.
He subsequently underwent surgery to remove a blood clot and received follow-up treatment at the hospital.
He leaves behind his wife and three children. – Bernama
