Students win bid to retain Tamil Literature

A DISAGREEMENT between the school management of SMK Karak and parents of Indian students over the Tamil Literature subject has been resolved amicably, Makkal Osai reported.

Ten out of the 11 students who took the subject for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations in 2023 achieved an A grade.

The record was even better in 2024, with 16 students getting an A grade for the subject.

However, when the school’s Tamil Literature subject teacher retired last year, the school wanted to stop allowing students to take the subject.

The students, parents and other Indian teachers who were willing to teach the subject disagreed with this move.

With 15 students wanting to take the subject for SPM in 2026, the parents insisted that the school make the necessary arrangements due to the high level of interest.

The school eventually agreed to the request following discussions.

The parents who spoke to the daily said they welcomed the decision and thanked the school management.
