KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to open the Sabah-level Kaamatan festival at the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) hall here on May 30.
Kaamatan Festival organising chairperson and coordinator Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said Anwar's presence is the federal government's acknowledgement towards Sabah's unique cultures.
Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah Tun Musa Aman is expected to grace and close the event on May 31.
"Many programmes and traditional performances have been lined up to welcome our guests of honour and visitors alike," he said during a radio interview on Saturday (May 23).
Kitingan said the climax and the main focus of the people would be the Unduk Ngadau cultural pageant finale, where a total of 53 finalists from across the state vying to be the Harvest Queen.
He also said shuttle buses would be provided over the two days of the festival to ease traffic flow and address parking concerns.
He said there would be two routes from Imago and Suria Sabah to and from the venue.
Kitingan advised the public to park their vehicles in the city centre and take the shuttle bus to the venue for a more convenient and comfortable journey.
He also advised visitors to maintain decorum, respect and appreciate the cultural aspects of the Kaamatan festival, as this is a highly valued cultural celebration.
"We can be merry, socialise and enjoy the traditional food and beverages but please be mindful of when consuming alcohol. Do not use the excuse of uncontrolled enjoyment to ruin the image and values of our cultural celebrations in the eyes of visitors and our younger generation," he said.
