Ministers vow to fight graft and abuse of power

KUALA LUMPUR: The call by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, for a comprehensive fight against corruption will guide the Home Ministry’s in strengthening governance and preventing leakages and abuse of power, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said His Majesty’s sent a clear message that anti-corruption efforts must be backed by firm, integrity-driven implementation.

He said the decree aligned with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s stance that political stability, economic growth and social justice depend on transparent governance.

“When the King and Prime Minister deliver the same message, it becomes a powerful reminder of how corruption can destroy the country,” he told reporters after the opening of Parliament, Bernama reported.

Saifuddin Nasution said the decree also referred to agencies under the Home Ministry, reinforcing its commitment to tightening procurement processes.

He gave an assurance that all Home Ministry procurements, particularly those involving development projects and large-scale expenditure, will be carried out transparently, with integrity and in line with the principles of good governance.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the royal address affirmed the need for a comprehensive approach in tackling corruption and abuse of power, including firm action against wrongdoing.

Fahmi also described His Majesty’s call to pursue corrupt officials as a strong warning to all, including MPs and senators.

“Members of the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara must set an example and prove that we are among the front lines in the fight against corruption,” said Fahmi adding that

“Although His Majesty’s speech was around 15 to 18 minutes, it was clear and with direct messages for the government and enforcement agencies,” he told Bernama.

At the same time, Fahmi said the government also needed to examine the issue of procurement and governance including the possibility of using a more transparent and open digital system.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said his ministry will focus on efforts to improve the quality of affordable housing construction under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

He said the government was grateful that the housing sector was also given serious attention by the King in his address.

“Under the 13MP, the ministry will further elevate the quality of affordable housing construction so that our affordable homes are not only accessible but also of high quality. That is our aim.”
