Some bosses found making irregular PERKESO contributions

SHAH ALAM: Some employers have been making inconsistent contributions to the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), possibly in an attempt to cut operational costs.

PERKESO group chief executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said that although the number is small, these employers pay contributions in certain months and skip others.

He said such practices are usually detected by checking records, with enforcement teams sent to follow up with the employers involved.

"When we review the records and find that contributions have not been made for two months, our enforcement team will go to the premises and ask why payments were not made.

"Some employers do this supposedly to save costs, but it should not be at the expense of workers’ welfare," he said here on Friday (April 3).

Earlier, he presented PERKESO Survivors’ Pension and Funeral Management Benefits to Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, the widow of Amirul Hafiz Omar, who was killed in an accident in Klang.

A laboratory assistant has been charged with his murder.

Azman, however, did not disclose the number of employers involved in making inconsistent contributions, noting that the level is not alarming.

He said PERKESO continuously carries out enforcement and awareness efforts to ensure employers register their workers and contribute consistently.

He stressed that failure to do so could have serious consequences for workers and their dependants in the event of unforeseen incidents.

"If employers fail to register or contribute and something happens to a worker, what will happen to their dependants?

"We should not try to save costs by avoiding registration or contributions, as social protection is crucial for workers and their families," he said.
