PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj has witnessed a memorandum of understanding exchange ceremony for the development of Selangor Smart Cities.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said the ceremony, which took place at the Concorde Hotel in Shah Alam marked its collaboration with the Selangor government.
"The collaboration is to expand the development of smart connectivity infrastructure, including the provision of high-speed public Wi-Fi services and the expansion of fibre optic networks for future needs.
"It also include the implementation of the 5G network and the installation of smart masts to ensure comprehensive network coverage throughout the state, in addition to strengthening public safety, traffic management and smart flood management," the MCMC said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 20).
MCMC said all the initiatives will be monitored through the Selangor Integrated and Intelligent Operations Centre (SIIOC).
Also present at the event was His Royal Highness Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
At the same time, MCMC said the allocation to support the implementation of these initiatives had been increased to RM450mil, an increase from the original allocation of RM350mil following the application from the Selangor government to MCMC.
The Selangor State Digitalisation Plan 2026-2030, Smartsel Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Menteri Besar of Selangor Incorporated, will act as the lead implementing agency to coordinate the integration of five smart city components including mobility, public safety, disaster management, digital governance and industrial connectivity through the 5G network.
"This collaboration reflects the government's commitment to ensuring that advanced technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) benefit the people.
"The Selangor State Smart City Initiative not only focuses on infrastructure development but also empowers communities through efficient, safe and inclusive digital services, in line with the Malaysia Madani framework," it added.
The MOU document exchange session was officiated by Selangor state secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, and MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.
It was also witnessed by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
