KOTA KINABALU: Four men were arrested in separate operations for allegedly threatening to hurt people in the Tawau district.
In Sunday raids (Jan 18), the first suspect was arrested after allegedly acting aggressively and threatening to hurt his younger sister and brother in Kg Rancagan Ranggu.
The 27-year-old was said to have become angry when his father reprimanded him, leading him to attack his father at around 11am.
“His elder brother, who went to check on what was going on, was almost hit by a broom the suspect had picked up and was apparently punched by the suspect after that,” said Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin.
The suspect was also believed to have threatened to kill his younger sister during the ordeal, prompting her to lodge a police report for her safety.
The suspect was arrested at around 6.15pm in front of his house the same day. He said the suspect was always prone to anger.
In another incident at around 8pm, two brothers aged 39 and 27 were apprehended after allegedly threatening their father-in-law with a sword and machete in front of a house in Kg Pengkalan Asli, Merotai Besar, on Saturday (Jan 17).
ACP Jasmin said both suspects arrived at the house brandishing their weapons while arguing with the 63-year-old victim.
It is learnt that the incident occurred after the 39-year-old’s wife returned to her father’s house and asked to stay overnight, but he refused.
An argument between the couple broke out, and her husband, along with his younger brother, went to the house to start a fight.
ACP Jasmin said the older man lodged a report after feeling threatened by the two younger men.
They managed to apprehend both suspects at around 12.10pm in front of a house in Kg Merotai Besar, he said.
Around the same time in Kg Vietnam, Jalan Tanjung Batu Laut, an immigrant was arrested for allegedly threatening his mother with a machete while at home.
ACP Jasmin said in the 12.20am incident, the suspect, in his 30s, was said to have carried a machete and slingshot while running amok, destroying parts of the house walls.
His mother, in her 60s, felt unsafe and threatened, prompting her to lodge a police report, he said.
Police successfully apprehended the suspect at around 4.30am near the area and seized a machete believed used during the incident, he added.
ACP Jasmin said all three cases will be investigated under various offences, including criminal intimidation and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
