Probe shows actress left Jeddah airport

KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Nadia Kesuma (pic), who was reported missing, is said to have left the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, says Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said this finding is based on latest immigration records, which showed that she had left the premises.

The minister said he spoke with the Malaysian consulate in Jeddah and was informed that a missing persons report could only be lodged there once 24 hours have lapsed.

“This is in accordance with their regulation. Since 24 hours have passed, I have ordered our consulate office to do the necessary.

“I am confident that the authorities, especially their police, will assist accordingly,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Umno annual general assembly.

The actress, whose real name is Nadia Kasumawati Abdul Karim, was reported missing after she could not be traced while transiting at King Abdulaziz International Airport during her flight from Kuala Lumpur to London on Jan 15.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed receiving a report on the disappearance of the actress.

KLIA police chief Asst Comm M. Ravi said the report was lodged by a family member on Friday and investigations are under way.

On another matter, Mohamad said Malaysia is not a direct trading partner with Iran and conducts any trade through a third party.

The Foreign Minister said while tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Iran were his own prerogative, it is regrettable how free trade is being used as a weapon which further disrupts the political climate.

“We do not want this to happen unless there truly are injustices being committed,” he added.

On Jan 14, Trump had imposed a 25% tariff on certain high-end semiconductor and certain AI chips, under a new national security order.

The move follows a massive uprising that broke out in Iran following the collapse of the Iranian rial in December last year.
