MACC seizes RM8.42mil in cash, assets linked to military funds abuse


PUTRAJAYA:  Cash, assets and funds sitting over 12 bank accounts worth some RM8.42mil have been seized in investigations into alleged abuse of military funds involving top armed forces officers.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said among the items seized were 66 gold bars weighing 2.49kg, three vehicles, RM1.5mil cash and RM4.7mil in eight company accounts and four private accounts.

"Our main focus for this case is the abuse of Defence Ministry funds.

"So far we have detained two top military officers this week.

"However, we have detained four other armed forces officers as well as nine civilians as the investigation into the case began on Oct 7 last year," he told a press conference at the MACC headquarters on Thursday (Jan 15).

He also confirmed the main suspects were the two top military officers detained this week.

"They were released after having their statements recorded.

"We expect to complete the investigation and submit the investigation paper to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) by Jan 23," he added.
