MACC races to wrap probe into senior military officers


PUTRAJAYA: The ongoing investigations involving senior military officers must be completed as soon as possible, given the sensitivities involved, says Tan Sri Azam Baki.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Bak, stressed that he had not received any directives or instructions to pursue both cases.

"I humbly say it is our responsibility to complete the investigations as soon as possible, given the sensitivity of the cases due to the military top brass involved.

"While the amount involved in other cases might be more, these cases are high profile and cases of huge public interest," he told reporters at the MACC headquarters on Thursday (Jan 15).

Azam said his officers had to conduct the investigations within a tight time frame.

"They have worked tirelessly since late last year.

"Day offs or leave do not exist for them. I salute them for doing such commendable work," he added.

He also does not rule out that more military officers may be called in to investigate both cases.

"We will settle both cases next week,k and I promise I will give an update.

"Give us time to wrap it up," he said.
