PAS yet to finalise its pick for Perikatan chairman, says Tuan Ibrahim

BANGI: PAS has yet to finalise its choice for the new Perikatan Nasional chairman, following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Sinar Harian reported that PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man stated that the matter would only be formally addressed once the Perikatan supreme council meet to accept Muhyiddin’s resignation officially.

“The supreme council must first hold a meeting to confirm the resignation. Only after that can candidates for the new Chairman be proposed. As of now, that meeting has yet to take place,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at a hotel in Bandar Baru Bangi on Saturday (Jan 10), Tuan Ibrahim emphasised that the coalition was not currently prioritising the selection of a successor.

“We are not focusing on candidates just yet,” he added.

Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, announced his decision to step down as Perikatan chairman on Dec 30, 2025, and his resignation would take effect on Jan 1.

However, Sinar reported that PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari confirmed that the party had already decided on a single name to replace the former prime minister as the new Perikatan chairman.

Clarifying the process, Tuan Ibrahim said that all four component parties within the coalition were entitled to submit their own recommendations.

“I believe other parties and component members can propose any names they see fit. The priority now is the confirmation of the vacancy. Once that is settled, all component parties will sit down together to discuss who will lead the coalition,” he said.
