Karaoke song selection ends with six remanded

MELAKA: Dissatisfaction over the selection of songs resulted in six men being remanded for further police investigations following a recent brawl at a karaoke outlet in Taman Melaka Raya.

All six suspects aged between 20 and 40 were produced at the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh yesterday where magistrate N. Sivashangari issued remand orders against them.

One of the men was remanded for four days until Jan 12, while the others were remanded for a day to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possession and importation of an imitation firearm, and Sections 506 and 147 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and rioting.

On Thursday, Melaka police said an imitation gun was used during a fight involving several patrons at the karaoke outlet.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the brawl happened at about 4am following dissatisfaction over the selection of songs by one of the guests.

He said the disagreement escalated into a heated argument, involving the six men who were believed to be intoxicated, before a fight broke out.
