PETALING JAYA: Ridership on public transportation managed by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad jumped by 11% last year, recording an average of 1.31 million passengers, says Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Amir Hamdan.
Amir said this reflects the reliability of Prasarana’s bus and rail operations, with an average of 1.18 million passengers recorded in 2024. December 31 last year also saw the highest number of Prasarana’s daily passengers, with as much as 1.63 million utilising its transportation services.
According to Amir, efforts to modernise Prasarana’s bus fleet are also underway, with 310 diesel buses having arrived in stages and procurement expected to be completed by February 2026.
“The delivery of some 250 electric buses is also targeted to begin by March this year, with procurements expected to be completed by March next year.
“Prasarana has also successfully completed 301 bus stops and 16 walkways. Some 43 bus stops and 17 passenger walkways are still under construction to improve access, comfort and customer experience,” he said in a media briefing at the Prasarana headquarters on Wednesday (Jan 7).
Also present was Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Amir added that there are also plans to introduce two new bus lanes at Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Gombak respectively, with the implementation to be done in phases beginning in the third quarter of this year.
“The existing bus lane in Jalan Ampang will remain status quo to improve travel in that sector,” he said.
Between July to December last year, a total of 556,618 digital My50 passes were cumulatively purchased, he said.
“This reflects increasing consumer confidence in digital ticketing systems,” he said.
