KUALA LUMPUR: Some 3,200 staff will be on duty to ensure rail and bus operations run smoothly during the current Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, says Prasarana Malaysia Bhd group chief executive officer Amir Hamdan.
Amir, who is also Prasarana president, said operations have been running smoothly and will proceed as usual.
“We have forecast a drop in passengers as many have travelled back to their hometowns but we will still ensure things are able to run without any hiccups.
“Our preparedness levels remain high,” he told reporters here on Saturday (March 21) after travelling to several rail stations to meet with passengers and staff serving throughout the celebration.
Amir also encouraged Malaysians to take the opportunity to use public transport during this period.
According to him, trains will operate at an off peak frequency through the celebrations, with one train every seven minutes for the Kelana Jaya LRT line and one train every 10 minutes for the MRT line.
“We will move back to peak period frequency beginning Tuesday (March 24), when work officially begins again,” he said.
On another matter, Amir said Prasarana’s recovery action plan has already been submitted during a recent post Cabinet meeting.
Among the aspects reported include technical aspects and customer experience.
“The report has been accepted. From our side, we have to execute the action plan to ensure that if anything happens, there is minimal disruption,” he said.
He also said Prasarana constantly provides reports to the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) on its operations.
Earlier in February, the LRT Kelana Jaya Line was disrupted during morning peak hours with reported instances of overcrowding and commuter frustration.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke then said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) must explain the disruption, adding that he had instructed the Prasarana chief executive officer to explain at the Cabinet meeting, along with an immediate recovery action plan.
