Thunderstorms, heavy rain expected in three states, KL and Putrajaya


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across three states as well as the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, effective until noon on Friday (Jan 2).

MetMalaysia, in a statement on Facebook, said the severe weather is expected to affect Bentong in Pahang and multiple areas in Selangor, including Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

Also effected are Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

A similar warning has also been issued for parts of Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban and Port Dickson).

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
