MMEA seizes six tonnes of tin ore off Batu Pahat

BATU PAHAT: About six tonnes of tin ore packed in gunny sacks have been uncovered by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at sea.

Batu Pahat MMEA director Maritime Comm Mohammad Zaini Zainal said a boat was spotted at 0.1 nautical miles (about 185m) southwest of Pulau Sialu during a routine patrol at around 3am on Tuesday (Dec 30).

Checks found 120 gunny sacks filled with tin ore, weighing about 6,000kg in total, on the boat’s lower deck. The items are suspected to be worth around RM600,000.

Three Indonesian boat crew, aged 33 to 59, were also detained to assist with investigation under the Customs Act 1967.

The seized items and detainees have been brought to the Batu Pahat maritime zone jetty and handed over to the investigating officer for further action.
