KUALA LUMPUR: Policemen involved in the Durian Tunggal shooting in Melaka have been removed from active duty pending investigations, says Bukit Aman.
"Investigations are ongoing and those being probed are not on active duty," said Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Comm Datuk M. Kumar at a press conference on Monday (Dec 29).
"We have recorded a total of 45 statements. We have also sent the audio recording to Cybersecurity Malaysia for analysis and are still waiting for their report.
"The investigation paper will be sent to the deputy public prosecutor's office for further action while we await the full report," he said.
On Nov 24, Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said three suspected criminals aged from 24 and 29 were shot dead after one of them attacked a policeman with a machete at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal.
In the 4.30am incident, a police corporal in his early 30s was injured in his left arm.
All three suspects, believed to be members of the Durian Tunggal Gang, were detected while on their way to a robbery.
The gang had been active since early 2024 and is linked to 20 cases in Melaka and one case each in Negri Sembilan and Selangor, causing losses totalling RM1.35mil.
Previously, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said a family member of a suspect had provided a recording of a phone call between one of the suspects and his wife.
On Dec 16, the Attorney General's Chambers instructed for case to be reclassified as murder.
