SEGAMAT: Six temporary flood relief centres (PPS) have been opened in the district, sheltering 103 victims as of Sunday (Dec 28).
The state disaster management committee said all the PPS were officially opened at 8pm to house 32 affected families.
“The centres are Balairaya Kampung Batu Badak, which is housing 40 residents, Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Orang Asli Segamat Kecil with 30 residents; and Balairaya Kampung Paya Lebar accommodating 16 residents.
“This is followed by Dewan Serbaguna Pekan Air Panas housing 10 residents, Balairaya Kampung Jabi with five residents and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tasek accommodating two residents,” it said in a statement.
It added that Jalan Jabi–Bukit Tempurong in Segamat has been completely closed after floodwaters inundated the road to a depth of 0.5m.
"Two rivers have exceeded dangerous levels, namely Sungai Muar at Kampung Awat, Segamat, with a reading of 20m (danger level at 19.95m), and Sungai Kesang at Kampung Seri Maamor, Tangkak at 4.11m (danger level at 4.0m).
"Another four rivers are at warning levels — Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap, Segamat at 8.46m (danger level: 8.53m), Sungai Muar at Segamat Kecil at 37.25m (danger level at 37.30m), Sungai Kesang at Telok Rimba, Tangkak at 3.39m (danger level: 3.50m) and Sungai Lenik at Ladang Chaah, Batu Pahat at 6.53m (danger level at 7.0m).
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain warning for Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi until Monday (Dec 29).
