Ipoh City Council receives RM20mil for road resurfacing

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has received RM20mil to resurface 400 roads in residential areas, the highest allocation to a local authority in the country, says Nga Kor Ming.

The Housing and Local Government Minister said the special allocation was approved by the Prime Minister. It would cover the repair of roads in five parliamentary constituencies: Tambun, Gopeng, Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur and Batu Gajah, all under MBI’s maintenance jurisdiction.

He said the resurfacing works were expected to begin soon and be completed by Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“Under the leadership of the Mayor, the council will ensure that contractors are selected based on competitive cost-benefit analyses, prioritising quality work.

“This initiative is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and enhance the living environment for residents,” he told reporters after visiting the Taman Canning market here on Tuesday (Dec 23).

Meanwhile, Nga said that under the Taman Rekreasi Madani initiative, 216 parks have been completed nationwide over the past two years. 34 were in Perak.

“The ministry will allocate RM1mil for the construction of the 35th Madani Recreational Park next to the Canning market here,” he said.
