THE Hindu community in Kangkar Pulai has been left shocked by the sudden demolition of a local temple.
The Malai Aaalum Murugan Temple in Bandar Kangkar Pulai was reportedly torn down by the Kulai Municipal Council on Monday, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Temple chairman N. Parameswara Rao said the council had ordered that the site be vacated.
Following discussions, the temple committee was granted permission to remain there until Dec 31 to allow time for relocation.
However, he said the temple was demolished without warning on a public holiday, despite there being 15 days remaining under the agreed timeline.
The move has angered members of the local Hindu community, with devotees demanding answers from the Kulai Municipal Council, as the temple had served the community for 24 years.
> Ten Tamil schools in Selangor have received their land deeds from the state government in what has been described as a historic move, Makkal Osai reported.
The Jenjarom, Teluk Panglima Garang, Simpang Morib, Ladang Seafield, Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, Kajang, PJS1, Bestari Jaya, FES Serdang and Tun Sambanthan vernacular primary schools had operated for years without their land being properly gazetted.
State executive councillor V. Papparaidu said the issue was finally resolved through the efforts of the state government’s Tamil schools action committee, which completed the task within 100 days of its formation.
He thanked Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the state Education Department, the land office, school boards, parent-teacher associations, headmasters and school management teams for their support.
The task force would continue working to resolve land issues faced by other Tamil schools in the state.
