KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 210 summons notices during a cross-border special operation involving three east coast states from Monday to Wednesday (Dec 15 to 17).
The joint enforcement was carried out with its Terengganu and Pahang counterparts, said Kelantan JPJ director Mohd Misuari Abdullah (pic).
The purpose of the operation was to ensure compliance with road laws, particularly among private and commercial vehicle operators travelling across the borders of the three states, he added.
It involved 37 officers and enforcement personnel, with areas of focus covering the Kuantan-Kemaman, Lipis-Gua Musang, Cameron Highlands-Lojing and Pasir Puteh-Kuala Besut/Jerteh routes.
"During the operation period, a total of 386 vehicles were inspected, and action was taken against 68 vehicles following the inspections,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 18).
Misuari added that in addition to the 210 summonses, the department also served 92 notices and detected 107 offences involving various violations under the Road Transport Act 1987, its subsidiary regulations, and the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
He said analysis showed that the highest number of offences detected involved technical violations, such as malfunctioning brake lights, worn tyres and unauthorised vehicle modifications, totalling 112 cases.
This was followed by failure to renew or the absence of a Motor Vehicle Licence (34 cases), and lack of insurance coverage (18 cases).
"In the same operation, nine vehicles were seized under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act, including three tipper lorries due to expired vehicle licences and insurance, as well as two cloned vehicles," Misuari added.
He said three more tipper lorries were seized under Section 80 of the Road Transport Act for exceeding the maximum permissible load. – Bernama
