KUALA LUMPUR: Continuous heavy rain has caused flooding in Pahang again, with 118 victims from 31 families placed in eight temporary relief centres in Kuantan and Maran as of 4.30pm on Tuesday (Dec 16).

According to the Social Welfare Department InfoBencana application, 52 victims from 14 families were housed in seven relief centres in Kuantan, while 66 residents from 17 families took shelter in a relief centre in Maran.

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage reported that water levels at the Sungai Belat station in Sri Damai, Kuantan, have exceeded the danger mark.

In Terengganu, the number of flood victims fell to 212 people from 58 families as of 5pm, compared with 460 people from 141 families earlier on Tuesday morning.

According to the Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, all victims from the Kemaman district were placed in seven relief centres, including Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Air Putih, Dewan Sivik Air Putih, Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Seberang Tayur Hulu, Dewan Ketengah Dandong, Masjid Kampung Batu 16 Tebak, Pusat Pemindahan Kampung Pasir Gajah, and Dewan Orang Ramai Batu 14.

In Hulu Terengganu, all four relief centres were closed at noon as residents returned home following improved weather conditions.

In Sarawak, the flood situation is improving, with only one relief centre still active in Miri.

In a statement, the state Disaster Management Committee said the relief centre at SK Suai Niah was closed at 11.30am after affected areas were found to have recovered.
