PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a continuous rain warning over several states, effective until Thursday (Dec 18).
MetMalaysia, in a statement, said the severe warning is expected to affect Kelantan, Terengganu, several districts in Pahang (Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin) as well as Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi).
Elsewhere, an alert level warning was issued for Perak (Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Temerloh, Maran and Bera) and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru).
The same alert was also issued for Pahang (Raub and Bentong), Sarawak (Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Mukah until Tuesday (Dec 16).
Meanwhile, MetMalaysia, in a separate statement, also issued a thunderstorm warning for several parts in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, which are expected to last until 9pm Monday (Dec 15).
In Sarawak, thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over Kapit (Song), Bintulu, Miri (Subis and Marudi) and Limbang.
In Sabah, the areas include the interior parts of Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Nabawan, Sandakan (Tongod and Kinabatangan) and Kudat (Pitas and Kudat).
MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
