Thunderstorms, heavy rain expected in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah


PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across parts of Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah, effective until 4pm on Monday (Dec 15).

MetMalaysia, in a statement, said the severe weather is expected to affect several districts in Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor) and Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Jempol and Tampin).

In Sabah, the warning covers Pedalaman (Keningau); Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Ranau and Kota Belud); Tawau (Tawau); Sandakan (Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan); and Kudat.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.
