MetMalaysia, in a statement, said the severe weather is expected to affect several districts in Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor) and Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Jempol and Tampin).

In Sabah, the warning covers Pedalaman (Keningau); Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Ranau and Kota Belud); Tawau (Tawau); Sandakan (Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan); and Kudat.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.
