KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Barisan Nasional's newly elected Kunak assemblyman has been appointed Assistant Minister for Youth Development, Sports and Creative Economy.

Datuk Seri Dr Anil Sandhu was sworn in on Monday (Dec 15) by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu.

Anil is the second Barisan-Umno assemblyman to be included in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition government of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Following his swearing in, he went into the ongoing Budget session at the state assembly where he took his place in the Assistant Minister's seat for his ministry.

With his appointment, all 18 Assistant Minister slots have been filled.

Other than Anil, Sabah’s new Umno chairman, Datuk Jafry Ariffin, was appointed the Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister in Hajiji's 11-member Cabinet.

Sabah Barisan won six seats in the Nov 29 state election and later joined the coalition government.

However, the Lamag seat has been left vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, on Dec 5.
