PONTIAN: The father-in-law of one of the victims killed in a crane collapse in Kukup here has revealed that he witnessed and recorded the tragedy as it occurred, Sinar Harian reports.

"I was shocked when I heard a loud explosion and saw plumes of smoke coming from Tanjung Bin.

"I managed to record the incident and send it to family members because my son-in-law works there," said Muhammad Hussin Zulkifli, 40, who was on a ship at the Tanjung Pelepas Port at the time of the tragedy.

Muhammad Amaluddin Hisamudin, 22, was one of two workers who died in the tragic incident at the Malakoff Power Plant on Jalan Tanjung Bin, Kukup, on Saturday (Dec 13).

Muhammad Hussin, a ship supervisor at the port, said he was still shocked by the incident.

He told Sinar Harian that he received a call at around 2pm informing him that his son-in-law was among the victims, and he and his wife immediately rushed to Pontian Hospital.

"We just met Amaluddin last week. At the time, he, his wife, Syahzanani Aizzati, 22, and their three-year-old child came to visit us in Taman Nusa Perintis, Gelang Patah.

"He was a quiet person. My daughter once said that he enjoyed eating her cooking every day," he said when met at the Forensic Unit of Pontian Hospital.

Muhammad Hussin told the Malay language daily his son-in-law's remains are expected to be buried at Gelang Patah Islamic Cemetery.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Faris, the brother of another victim, Muhammad Alfarid Ahmad, 19, said their conversation via WhatsApp on Friday (Dec 12) was unexpectedly their last.

"We had just spoken as usual last night, and he showed no changes," he said, adding that the last time he met his brother was early last month.

According to Muhammad Faris, his brother's remains will be taken back to Tanah Merah, Kelantan, once the post-mortem process at Pontian Hospital is completed.

Three other workers were seriously injured in the incident and are now receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) in Johor Baru.
