Tengku Zerafina heads honours list


KLANG: This year, 98 people have been shortlisted to receive awards and medals at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s 80th birthday today.

Heading the list is the Ruler’s eldest child Tengku Zerafina Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who will receive the Darjah Kerabat Selangor Yang Amat DiHormati (DKll).

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah will receive the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) award, which carries the title Datuk Seri.

The Dato’ Setia-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SSIS) award, which carries the title Datuk Setia for men and Datin Paduka Setia for women, will be received by Selangor Islamic Council (MAIS) deputy chairman Tan Sri Mazlan Mansor, YTL Corporation Bhd executive director Datuk Mark Yeoh and Subang Jaya Medical Centre orthopaedic surgery specialist Datuk Dr Anuar Onah.

This is followed by 16 recipients of the Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) award, which carries the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women.

Among the 16 are Com­munications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Selangor state financial officer Datuk Dr Haniff Zainal Abidin, Selangor executive councillor Datuk Rizam Ismail, Federal Court judge Datuk Azimah Omar, Appeals Court judge Ong Chee Kwan, Universiti Putra Malaysia deputy chancellor Datuk Prof Ir Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, Selangor Education Department director Dr Jafri Abu, Girl Guides Association Malaysia’s Sela­ngor branch president Datin Seri Utama Johanna Adrina Raja Arshad, IOI Properties Group Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Lee Yeow Seng and Kuok Brothers Sdn Bhd managing director Kuok Meng Xiong.

Among the 15 people who will receive the Dato’-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS) award which carries the title Datuk for male recipients and Datin Paduka for female recipients are Orang Besar Istana Tengku Seri Perkasa Draja Tengku Musahiddin Shah Tengku Abdul Samad Shah, Second Malaysian Infantry Brigade Commander Brig-Jen Mohd Rosli Abu Bakar, Army Academy commandant Brig-Jen Mohd Sauffi Omar, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail, Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon, Port Klang Authority general manager K. Subramaniam, Valiram group managing director Ashvin Jethanand Valiram and artist Yusof Ghani.

National bodybuilder Ahmad Faiz Ariffin will receive the Ahli Kegemilangan Sukan Selangor (AKS), which is exclusively for athletes.

As for the awards and medals that do not come with titles, 10 people received the Setia Makhota Selangor (SMS) and the Setia-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SIS), 15 people each will receive the Ahli Makhota Selangor (AMS) and Ahli-Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (AIS), one person will receive the Bintang Kecemer­langan Sukan Selangor (BKS), which is also only for athletes, and seven people will receive the Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (BPC).

A media statement signed by Selangor state secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said a total of 2,449 nominations were received, of which 955 were for the awards; and 1,494 nominations for the various state medals.

The list of the 98 shortlisted candidates was perused by a special committee before being forwarded to the Royal Council technical committee meeting on Oct 13.

Following this, Sultan Sharafuddin consented the shortlisted candidates after conferring with the Royal Council members.

Dr Ahmad Fadzli said all the shortlisted candidates were also screened by the police, the Insolvency Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
