JOHOR BARU: The long-awaited Electric Train Service (ETS) between Johor Baru and Kuala Lumpur has been launched.
The service, launched by Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim at the Kempas Baru train station on Thursday (Dec 11), will begin operations on Friday (Dec 12).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the launch of the train service is yet another boost for Johor and the country.

"Today, we complete a very important chapter that establishes a transport network and connectivity system needed to develop the country and Johor.
"We need airports, ports, a highway network and transport infrastructure, including what we are witnessing today, and we are now at least close to completing these basic facilities," he said in his speech during the launch of the train service here.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the completion of this project marks a significant milestone in the nation’s rail development.

"Today’s ceremony is not only symbolic of the project’s completion, but also represents a major achievement reflecting the government’s commitment to improving public transport services for the people.
"This effort not only benefits the people of Johor, but also contributes to the overall direction of national development," he said.
Also present at the ceremony was Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
With the completion of the 192km Gemas-Johor Baru Electrified Double-Tracking Project (EDTP) line, KTMB is introducing four daily ETS services between KL Sentral and JB Sentral.

KTMB has marked the launch with a special 30% discount for tickets on the KL Sentral-JB Sentral-KL Sentral route.
The promotion will run from Dec 12 to Jan 11, with 5,000 promotional codes available for travellers who use the code JBBEST, subject to terms and conditions.
