Selangor fully recovers from floods, fewer evacuees in Perak


KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor has fully recovered from the floods with the closure of its final temporary evacuation centre in Kuala Selangor on Monday (Dec 8), while fewer evacuees were recorded in Perak on Tuesday morning.

In SELANGOR, the state's last evacuation centre at Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Pasangan, Kuala Selangor, which housed 38 victims from 12 families, was closed at 3pm on Monday

Kuala Selangor District Disaster Management Committee chairman Mohd Raiz Radzuan, when contacted, said all the victims from Kampung Asahan were allowed to return home yesterday after the district fully recovered from the floods.

He added that 20 centres had been opened since Nov 24, with 29 areas throughout the district being hit by floods.

In PERAK, the number of flood victims on Tuesday morning (Dec 9) dropped to 411 people from 122 families, who are still sheltering at five centres in three districts, compared to 487 evacuees from 140 families on Monday night.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that the relief centre at Dewan Rumah Rehat MPTI Bandar Baru in Hilir Perak, which previously housed 45 people from 10 families, was closed at 8.30pm on Monday.

The Bagan Datuk Youth and Sports Complex Hall relief centre has the highest number of evacuees with 142 people from 45 families, out of the eight villages in the district, followed by Manjung, with 140 people from 40 families sheltering at two centres, and Hilir Perak, which housed 129 victims from 37 families at two centres.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms for the three areas on Tuesday morning. – Bernama
