Perak Perhilitan installs trap, additional trail cameras in Bukit Bangkong

IPOH: The Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has installed a trap and added two more trail cameras in Bukit Bangkong, Chemor, following a tiger attack in the area on Dec 5.

Its Malayan Tiger Conservation Unit head, Marina Yusof, said the action was taken after footprints of the predator were found at several locations around the area.

"In addition to the trap installed today, two cameras were set up after the attack occurred, and we added two more cameras yesterday near the site where the tiger’s footprints were discovered.

"The location for the trap and the two latest cameras was chosen based on the footprints we previously found,” she said when met at Bukit Bangkong on Tuesday (Dec 9).

The incident was reported at about 6.30pm by a cattle owner who found two of his animals dead with bite marks, while several others could not be located.

Meanwhile, Hulu Kinta Assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad, who also visited the site, urged residents to exercise caution and suspend all recreational activities in the affected area.
