TAPAH: The police, in collaboration with the Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan), have stepped up monitoring around Bukit Bangkong, Tanah Hitam in Chemor, following the sighting of a tiger in the area.
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the intensified patrols are aimed at preventing unauthorised individuals, including potential poachers, from entering the affected area.
"We will ensure continuous patrols together with Perhilitan to keep the area free from those who have no reason to be there.
"At present, Bukit Bangkong and its surrounding areas remain closed to all recreational activities. The police advise residents, particularly in Chemor, Tanah Hitam and Changkat Kinding, to remain vigilant. We are concerned that the tiger may still be roaming in the area,” he said.
Noor Hisam said this after the handing over of duties ceremony between Supt Johari Yahya, who has been transferred to Nilai as the new district police chief, and the new Tapah police chief, Supt Abdul Malik Hasim.
Before this, Noor Hisam was reported as saying that the police had received a report of a suspected tiger attack that resulted in two cattle being killed and five others missing in Bukit Bangkong, Tanah Hitam, last Friday.
The incident was reported at about 6.30pm by a cattle owner who found two of his animals dead with bite marks, while several others could not be located. - Bernama
