Over 140,000 visited Melaka via cruise ships

MELAKA: Nearly 144,000 tourists landed in Melaka via luxury cruise ships from November 2024 to October this year.

State tourism, heritage, arts and culture committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said the arrival of the tourists was via six luxury cruise ships – Genting Dream, Seven Sea Voyager, Riviera, Star Voyager, Regatta and Nautica.

“Based on records received by the tourism promotion division of the Chief Minister’s Department, a total of 249,829 tourists have boarded luxury cruise ships to Melaka. However, only 143,218 tourists have landed at the Melaka Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex,” he said at the state legislative assembly yesterday, Bernama reported.

He was responding to a question by Low Chee Leong (PH-Kota Laksamana) who wanted to know the number of luxury cruise ship tourist landings in the state every month since 2024.

Regarding the construction of the Cruise Terminal on Pulau Melaka, Abdul Razak said development work has commenced and recorded physical progress of around 5%.

“To date, a total of 60 piles have been installed, marking the start of construction work on the terminal’s basic structure,” he said.

“The state government insists that it will not tolerate any company that fails to fulfil its responsibilities and all violations will be subject to appropriate action.”
