Two children die in separate drowning incidents in Negri Sembilan

PORT DICKSON: A four-year-old boy died after he was believed to have drowned in a pool at a homestay in Batu 4, Jalan Pantai on Saturday (Dec 6) evening.

District police chief Supt Maslan Udin said the district operations centre received a call from the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital (HTJ) emergency department in Seremban at around 10.40pm on Saturday, notifying them of the boy’s death.

The victim was first taken to Port Dickson Hospital around 6pm and later transferred to HTJ, where doctors declared him dead at around 8.40pm.

Police are now investigating the case. Preliminary checks at the homestay revealed that the pool was 1.5m deep and nine metres long. A post-mortem will be carried out at Rembau Hospital to establish the cause of death.

In a separate incident, a five-year-old girl is also believed to have drowned while swimming with friends at a clubhouse pool in Lenggeng, just after noon on Saturday (Dec 6).

Negri Sembilan police chief Dept Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the girl was attending a prize-giving ceremony for a group of preschoolers when she disappeared from view while swimming.

Her mother found her unconscious underwater. Members of the public administered CPR and rushed her to hospital, but doctors later pronounced her "brought in dead".
