Rafizi alleges MACC detained PKR members not aligned to top leadership in lead-up to party polls

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli is alleging that several PKR members who were not aligned with the top party leadership were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the lead-up to the party elections.

He claimed these included those running for the PKR deputy president post in May 2025.

"During the PKR party elections, there were many PKR candidates detained by the MACC.

"One of them called me after a Cabinet meeting saying that his house was surrounded by officers and only his wife and kids were at home.

"This candidate is one of my staunch supporters who has never lost in Selangor," said the Pandan MP and former economy minister in the "Yang Berhenti Menteri" podcast.

He said it was later found out that the person had bought a house in cash.

Rafizi claimed that when he called Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim about the detention, the PKR president explained it was about the cash purchase.

Rafizi said he responded that even so, there was no need to surround the house and that the person would go to the MACC himself, and Anwar agreed.

"The matter was later verified after the person went to MACC with his lawyers," he said.

Rafizi acknowledged that not everyone in PKR can voice their opinion like him.

"I told PMX (Anwar) I have never aspired to be a minister as I am happy to live like a normal person.

"I have the means to live a good life but not others in the party who don't have the same privilege," he said, adding that there was cynicism towards the MACC among those who were privy to knowledge of such incidents.
